Pet Rabbit Feed Manufacturers "Feedback"
and we would prefer to post positive feedback -- our goal for 2014

For those of you that use and recommend Lauke Mills "Jack Rabbit" products, I would like to share an email thread of how this company treat their customer enquiries:

Subject: Museli style rabbit feeds

To Whom it May Concern,

I am writing to you to express my concerns about your product Ol Jacks Rabbit & Guinea Pig pet mix being falsely marketed as a “complete food that requires no other supplementary feeding”. As a qualified veterinary nurse, veterinary student, rabbit breeder and show exhibitor I have spent many years of study and research on rabbits and it is misleading to rabbit owners that they can feed this mix alone without any further supplementation. 80% of a rabbits diet should be meadow, timothy or oaten hay, along with fibrous weeds, grasses and leafy greens. At most, a rabbit should only receive 100g pelleted feed (not a muesli style feed) daily.

I have provided a link from Edinburgh University that may be of interest to you in substantiating my comments.

Morning Chantelle,

I am sorry , but I completely disagree with your comments.

What you are suggesting is just plainly wrong. You have a little bit of knowledge on the subject and obviously feel that you know it all. Well, unfortunately it is quite obvious that you lack a sound understanding of animal nutrition. By the way, your Veterinary Bioscience degree teaches very little about animal nutrition.

I know this for a fact as my son has that degree. I wish you well in your further studies and I hope you complete your Doctor of Veterinary Medicine successfully. Just be careful about portraying yourself as an expert when you don’t know all the facts. Have a nice xmas.

Regards
Condor Laucke

Condor,

Firstly in reply to the tone of your email. It was both unprofessional and rude. You wouldn’t have any clue what nutrition study I have done other than what assumption you have made by reading my post noms at the end of my email. You most certainly should not make an assumption about my age, knowledge or experience based on the fact that your son has gone to university and done the same degree. I did not at any time hold myself out to be an expert, I was simply asking the question given the research, how can your company market your muesli style product as a “complete feed that requires no supplementation” which is a fair and valid question.

You did not address my questions in relation to the advertising of your product at all, you simply launched a personal attack which was completely uncalled for and unnecessary.

For your information, my comments regarding feeding regimes for rabbits are supported by a seminar given by rabbit vet Dr Belinda Willis in Victoria which was provided by the Australian Veterinary Nurse Council last year. I suppose she is also “completely wrong” then and the AVNC also publish incorrect information in their seminars?

Up until now I have fed your company’s Jack Rabbit pellets to my own rabbits in their nutrition regime and also have recommended them to other rabbit breeders and owners in support of a family owned SA business. After your very condescending and rude response you can be assured I will find another supplier that actually has some respect for their customers.
